Cross-border payments platform Thunes has incorporated PayPal’s international payouts service Hyperwallet into its Direct Global Network.

Hyperwallet customers can now transfer funds in “real-time” to over 450 million mobile wallets and bank accounts across Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, South Korea, and Vietnam.

Hyperwallet can provide customers with their preferred methods of accessing funds through its global merchant network, which includes ride-hailing apps, marketplaces, and social media platforms.

Payout preferences for consumers in the APAC region vary based on factors such as banking access, the availability of real-time payment systems, and the utilisation of digital wallets in each market.

Thunes CEO Floris de Kort said: “Welcoming PayPal’s Hyperwallet into our Direct Global Network underscores our ability to provide powerful new capabilities to top-tier fintechs.

“With our extensive network that directly, transparently and dependably connects to over 7 billion bank accounts and mobile wallets worldwide, combined with our SmartX Treasury System and our Fortress Compliance Platform, Thunes is uniquely positioned to support Hyperwallet to increase its reach in fast growing geographies to enhance its cross-border payment services.”

Thunes recently launched “From Cash to QR Codes: Unpacking Southeast Asia’s Diverse Payments Culture,” a report that examines the region’s payment trends and sheds light on digital wallet adoption rates exceeding 30% in the Philippines and Indonesia.

In November 2024, Thunes joined forces with Turkey’s fintech company Papara, which is now part of its Direct Global Network.

This alliance empowers Papara users in Turkey, enabling them to send money into three billion mobile wallet accounts, four billion bank accounts, and 15 billion cards in over 80 currencies to more than 130 countries.

“Thunes adds PayPal’s Hyperwallet to its direct global network ” was originally created and published by Electronic Payments International, a GlobalData owned brand.
